After Care FAQ

  • Can I go to the Gym?

I don’t recommend going to the gym for the two weeks that your tattoo is healing for hygeine reasons its very easy to pick up germs and transfer them to your tattoo.

Even if you are wearing second skin this is not recommended because sweat will trap under the second skin causing your tattoo to sit in too much moisture.

  • Can I go swimming in any way?

No for the first two weeks you must not swim at all. Any kind of swimming or submerging your tattoo in water is dangerous and can cause infection. Including if you are wearing second skin.

I often hear that sea water is salty so its fine, this is not the case people regularly become very ill from going into the sea with a paper cut so please just wait until your tattoo is healed!

  • What is over moisturising ?

Over moisturising is coating the tattoo in too thick of a coat of cream and or too often. Your skin needs to breathe while healing and applying cream too thickly will suffocate the skin.

This can also cause clogged pores which will look like spots around the tattoo.

You should only be applying when the tattoo feels dry and in a very very thin layer.

  • Why can't my tattoo be in the sun while healing ?

Tattooing is grazing the skin and causing damage which almost mirrors a sun burn, if you get a sun burn on top of that it causes more damage and will affect or delay healing.

You are also letting the tattoo settle into the layers of the skin and dont want to affect the pigment before it has settled.

once healed you should continue to use sun cream on your tattoos while outside to keep them looking fresh.

  • I have a red mark where the second skin is?

This can happen for a few reasons, it could be in a location where you are moving/ stretching the skin alot and it is causing it to pinch you over and over as you move.

It could be too moist under the second skin.

You could be having a reaction to the second skin.

In all cases I recommend removing the second skin and beginning general aftercare.

  • I'm worried about how my tattoo is healing what should I look out for ?

When your tattoo is healing the skin around it should look calm and normal after a few hours of being tattooed.

If you experience any redness tracking up from the tattoo, pus, extreme pain or any sign of infection please contact your doctor and inform me and I can help with aftercare.

Some soreness, weeping (this should be ink coloured, clear or sometimes a little bloody - not pus coloured) and minor swelling is normal in the first day of your tattoo. Very mild soreness can also be normal for a few days it should feel like a minor sunburn.
